How Your Website Can Strengthen Your Story
We wanted to write this short article as one of encouragement. To encourage you to step out into the unknowns and scary parts of the digital-verse. Wait, what is scary and unknown? The answer is simple: letting your guard down and telling your truthful story to others. That is what we hope your brand is or will become. One step towards that is using your website as a launchpad for your story. Here are a few encouragements to give you some inspiration.
Imagery can be so powerful, but can easily distract as well. *cue Eminem song: Lose Yourself * You have one moment to grab someone’s attention, communicate who you, your goals, & your vision in the span of 2 seconds. No pressure. But, there shouldn’t be if you are being true to who you are, and know what your vision and goals are. If you sell repair services, and you know that your personality is a little gruff, and your business goals are to provide a ‘get-it-done’ attitude, why not own that? Have your imagery showcase texture, a little rust, maybe even some portraits of you working? Own who you are, and what makes you stand out. Don’t be afraid of your personality or what you TRULY offer people. It is amazing that you even get to own a business, and in some way, it will always be connected to your personality, so why not have some fun with your expression?
Think of your website as a brochure that lives in a billion different devices, always re-stacking and always ready to educate the masses. Imagery will help tell your story and make someone feel the feels as they scroll through your site. It’s powerful, and it should be truthful. You are a lot more interesting than you give yourself credit for.
Another amazing tool you have in your website is writing. How can you inject some of your personality into your headlines? I think nowadays people are really craving an honest voice. One that is not trying to sell them, but really communicates who they are and their vision. “I am Brock the repairman. I really have a passion for repairing widgets and making your life easier. I am good at what I do because I care.” is a lot more honest and real than “I am Brock the repairman and I am the most amazing repairman ever. Hire me or forever be in disrepair!”. Ok, Brock, I don’t know you, and really, forever? It is ok to be nerdy or geeky about what you do, it is ok to be you. One exercise to start is how can you communicate your trueness succinctly? Same as imagery, you have but a small moment to capture someone. Do it real. Rock those headlines, service descriptions, and write some blogs. Let people get to know you, and don’t be afraid to write about what you want as long as it fits your goals and vision. That is how you establish your brand and grow it.
We hope these two little encouragers will help you on a path of authentic story building. If you want to talk to us more about this, email us email@example.com and let’s start talking about your story.
